High-Intensity Lighting is vital to the health of a marine aquarium, especially for photosynthetic anemones, corals and other invertabrates.

Our standard systems come equipped with VHO flourescent lighting, with a minimum output of 220 watts (2 bulbs) or 440 watts (4 bulbs), using IceCap electronic ballasts.

Optional (but highly recommended) is metal halide lighting. The “look” of metal halide is very close to the natural reef. This sinple-point, very intense light source produces similar refractions in the water as the sun does in the tropics. Very cool... Wattages vary depending on system size.

Until relatively recently, lighting systems used in aquariums have been either adapted from freshwater aquariums or even standard flourescent lighting fixtures. We now know that the marine environment has very specific requirements using lights with specific wavelength output. With advances in Very High Output (VHO) flourescent lights, power compacts, actinic bulbs (heavy blue wavelength output), it is now a simple matter to be able to provide the inhabitants of a marine aquarium with sufficient light to easily thrive in your aquarium from Nemo Marine Systems
